We grow up with a ton load of expectations imposed on us by others. People around us think they have the right to tell us what we should and shouldn’t do and most of the time we allow it and follow their guidance without evaluating if that is good for us or if those recommendations are what we want.
This endless cycle is slowly destroying our happiness, but when we become conscious of this we can stop this pattern.
Maybe you can identify the following sensations and realize why you are feeling like that. Maybe you already know you are following others’ opinions and you don’t realize what is going to happen in your life if you don’t stop it.
Having a feeling of conflict and discontent
Deep inside we know what we want and when we don’t follow this and instead do what others want, it creates a big conflict inside us and we start feeling disconnected from our true selves.
Not feeling Self-Sufficient
We may start perceiving ourselves as inferior or defective. Over time, this can negatively impact our self-confidence and self-esteem, making it difficult to pursue our own goals and dreams.
Feeling a Lack of Fulfillment
Internally we know we aren’t prioritizing our desires, so we feel frustration and a feeling of emptiness inside us.
Limiting our Personal Growth
When we do things dictated by others, we stop taking risks. We don’t explore new paths and that restricts our ability to discover our true potential.
Growing Resentment and Frustration with others
Unconsciously, this can produce negativity and strain relationships, as we may hold resentment towards those who impose their “shoulds” upon us.
Missing Opportunities for Learning
When we only focus on avoiding disapproval or criticism, we may shy away from opportunities that could teach us important lessons.
To some extent, it’s important to recognize and consider others’ perspectives to view the full scope of situations, but it is more important to honor first our own desires. Now it’s time to break free and walk without the burden of others. We have a lot of dreams to fulfill!
